CSA & DOT Update

A few quick updates for you with regard to changing DOT rules and regulations. Schedule one prescription drugs, even when prescribed by a doctor, that are in violation of federal prohibited substances will not be acceptable for a commercial driver to have in his or her system, and will result in enforcement action taken.

A conviction for violation of the hands-free cell phone law is considered a serious violation, just as following too close or 15 or more miles per hour over the speed limit, and will be subject to the dot penalty where two such violations in a three year period will result in a 60 days suspension of a drivers driving privilege. If you have a push button, to speak cell phone, you can push the one button for the speaker in a moving commercial vehicle to use it, as long as you can reach it with your seat belt fastened.

As professional drivers it is very important that you stay informed with changing regulations. If we can be of assistance please feel free to let us know how we can help.

ALSO YOUR RESTART MUST INCLUDE TWO 1AM-5AM REST PERIODS!!! This is awful!!!! if you dont begin your restart by 1am, you are screwed!!! it won't count!!! if you go off duty, and begin your restart at 7am, a 34 hour restart could turn into a 50+ hour restart..... plus only one restart in an 8 day period is alllowed

John

The new proposed rule change does say the restart can only be used once per week, however, that is not law at the present time, and with two formal law suits filed to challenge the new rulings, I don't look for any change for some time !

Is there a change in the number of times a 34 hr reset can be used in a 30 day period?

Thanks

Lloyd-

Schedule 1 drugs have a high tendency for abuse and have no accepted medical use. This schedule includes drugs such as Marijuana, Heroin, Estasy, LSD, and GHB. Pharmacies do not sell Schedule 1 drugs, and they are not available with a prescription by a physician. Hope that helps, regards Jim

Good up-date Jim. However, could you let the drivers know what drugs are considered Schedule One Prescription or let them know where they can find out where they are listed.

Thanks,
Lloyd Angel
