Heat Awareness

Heat related illnesses are a major concern for workers in hot weather! Please use caution as the temperature rises and beware of heat exhaustion. Heat exhaustion warning signs include headache, dizziness, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, and excessive thirst.

In extreme situations please watch for the warning signs of an even greater risk - heat stroke. Warning signs for heat stroke include pale dry skin, mood changes, seizures & fainting. Both of the above situations are potentially life threatening and require your awareness and attention to avoid.

Please Take Note: Conditions that cause heat-related illness to develop or become worse include: high temperatures-especially with humidity, direct sun or heat, limited air movement, physical exertion, poor physical condition, some medications, AND just poor tolerance for hot temperatures.

To help avoid these dangerous situations consider these tips: stay hydrated with water, not energy drinks and soda, take frequent breaks and monitor your own body temperature when working in these types of exposures.
