April has been designated as Distracted Driving Awareness month, “U DRIVE- U TEXT- U PAY” The National Safety Council estimates 26 percent of all vehicle crashes involve cell phone use. That’s why it is so critical for all drivers to understand the risks we are taking when on a cell phone or texting.

More than 30 studies have shown hands-free doesn't make drivers safer because the brain remains distracted and the drivers attention is not on safe driving. If all drivers would make a concerted effort to stop distracted driving in April 2015, everyone, including you, will benefit.

So join in, no texting, no cell phone use, no eating, no reading , no dozing, no daydreaming, and no attention divided conversations with others while driving! REMEMBER ONE TEXT OR CALL COULD WRECK IT ALL!

"Proper Space Management" means maintaining enough space around your vehicle to operate and stop safely. To stop your vehicle safely, several factors come into play. "Perception distance" is the distance a vehicle travels from the time you see a hazard until your brain recognizes the hazard. For an alert driver, about 3/4 of a second; but at 55 mph, your vehicle travels some 60 feet in that 3/4 of a second.

The federal motor carrier association has said that after January 30, 2015 a CDL driver will no longer be required to carry a paper medical certificate, his or her medical status can be verified by running a license status check.

Also, new medical information must be posted to the drivers CDL record each time a new medical is sent to the DMV. Such as medical exams where a driver does not receive a two year medical card. This will ensure no CDL down-grade will be taken against a CDL, due to a disconnect in getting the medical information onto the license record. All new medical certificates must be conducted by persons registered on the national registry of certified medical examiners. The CDL driver is still responsible for making sure his or her medical information is received by their state motor vehicle department. It is suggested that the driver carry their medical certificate for up to 15 days after a new medical evaluation is conducted to confirm posting of the new exam to the drivers CDL.
